Boat weight???

Hi, This is a bit of a long shot but; I have an 18 wilson flyer I dont know how old it is, I would like to know what is the boats advrage weight for an 18 boat? I am guessing about 1/2 a ton. As I need a new trailer the dealers need to know the weight so I can get the propper trailer for it.<br />Or has any one got a contact details of the builders? I have been looking on the web but with no luck.<br />Thanks for any help.<br />Tony

What type of hull is that? I checked the nadaguide.com site, but they don't list Wilson boats there, so I couldn't look it up. They do show weights of the boats they list, though.

Ah, I see. You're in the UK. I don't believe those Wilson boats were sold here in the USA, which is why they don't show up.<br /><br />Describe the boat, though, and perhaps we can find a similar hull design and give you a range.

ok, sorry, its a cathedral hull 2 berth, its a grp hull, the main cabin has been alterd made a bit shorter to allow more deck space 1 to 2 foot shorter the insides :- benches ect are made from ply 1/2 inch aprox also carrys a 75 hp merc engine 3 pot 2 stroke engine

I'll bet that thing is at least 700 Kilos, maybe as much as a ton depending on fuel, stuff, gear, water, beer etc. etc.

OK, looking at that shorter version, I'd say around 1100 lb for the bare boat, 250 for the engine, plus about 300 for incidentals. Make it 1700, but get the trailer rated for 2000 lb. at least.<br /><br />If it's on a trailer now, go weigh the boat and trailer somewhere, then guestimate the trailer's weight.<br /><br />I hope you're not towing this with a lightweight vehicle...you're going to be well over 2500 lb when you have the trailer and all.

CATrans,<br /><br />You can absolutely bet they are towing with a lightweight vehicle. Their interpretation of tow vehicle and ours are totally different. I've seen VW Passat's pulling ski boiats over there. Very common. Frankly, they are the best drivers on the planet as far as I am concerned and they definitely get it. We just are used to much higher standards as far as tow vehicles.<br /><br />My .02

Yikes! Oh well. Take it very easy with that combination. If you still have the trailer, try to see if you can find a place to weigh the boat and trailer. That way, you'll have a decent answer to give the trailer dealer. Just tell them that the weight is WITH a trailer. They'll guess pretty closely. Take a photo of the boat and trailer with you. The dealer will be able to estimate the weight of the trailer pretty accurately.

ok, prob sending a photo is a good idea <br /><br />Ok the problem is when I bought the boat it had what looked like a "home built" trailer, towing it home I found out if I went over 35mph the trailer started to snake down the road :/.<br />Launching the boat off the trailer on to sand and re mounting it is a real pain in the a$$ as the hull gets damaged by the rollers ect. This is the reason for a new trailer. Towing it to a weigh bridge, sorry its not an option .<br />The boat is kept at the boat club, so I only have to tow it on to the beach to dry launch it. I dont have to tow it on the main road

Ah, I see. Well, I'll bet the photo along with dimensions will be enough for the dealer to determine what trailer you need. You might want to take more than one, with a side veiw, frontal view, and rear view, to make things easier.

Get it weighed. Then get a trailer that has some room to grow in weight. Especially if you like to pack stuff in the boat for the trip.

Hi Tony,<br /><br />I remember the Wilsons. I don't think that boat is near as heavy as others have suggested. I'd put the weight more like 1400lbs all up. Just MHO. UK made boats tend to be a lot more basic than US boats.<br /><br />And these big V8's aren't needed to tow it with, as you've already proved! Our transatlantic friends are spoilt! A near neighbour tows a Fletcher 17' bowrider with a Renault 4! That's a lightweight car with a 1000cc engine! He's an old boy who's been doing it for years.<br /><br />Guess it's what folks'r used to.

hi guys, looking at the posted aprox weights it will be around 700 kg to 1300 kg so I got someting to work with now <br /><br />thanks for the input Il give the dealer a ring later see what he comes up with, I know its going to hurt the pocket
