Received my renewals for the boats today and it also came with a letter of not renewing the policies. Mentioned it is going into partnership with National Liability and Fire Ins Co. Only guessing but maybe hurricane sandy may have hit the company a bit to hard. Anyone here anything about the issue?

When I got my notices for both boats they said non renewal also but also included the new offer for the new company. They said they had to issue the nonrenewal notice because the old company they had used was no longer doing the coverage, hence the nonrenewal. The new company policy was included in the same mailing. I'm still with BoatUS at a better price than I could get elsewhere.

I just started insurance last week with Boat US on the pontoon I just purchased. Company is National Liability.

I got the same thing, maybe I'm over thinking it. I received the renewal and the non-renewal, maybe it's like you said. Guess I'll have to check the cost and see if it went up, down or stayed the same.

So were they bought out?
I don't know if I want to renew with them myself! Not happy how my policy went up significantly after Sandy came through and my boat was in no harm/ I never filed a claim.

 Recon my problem is staring back at me in the mirror
LOL. I was wondering what you were thinking!

After gettign a quote last week, I am seriously thinking of giving up my grandfathered USAA policy to go to BoatUS. $595 vs $275.

You're overthinking it. Boat US never underwrote their policies- they market them under their name, but use a third-party insurance carrier. They changed carriers. The old policy can't be renewed as-is because they're no longer using that carrier, so you're starting a policy with the new carrier, through Boat US. That's all.

Got those notices a couple months ago. Policy premium didn't change enough to notice it.

is Boat US that much better than just going through your normal insurance agent? mine is through the same agent as all my other vehicles. not terribly expensive.

For me it was a cost savings. That being said it may not be now, have been with BoatUS (contracted Ins Co) so long haven't thought about checking. This way I can also have a higher liability policy for the boat or other stuff separately from the other policies

I go back and forth between Boat US and Progressive. Absence makes the premiums grow smaller.....

When you get into larger more expensive boats, like the ones in the other posters signatures, an insurer that specializes in boat coverage seems to have an advantage.

For me and my little < $3000 boats, it is actually cheaper to go with my local agent.

I see, I missed the all important details in there. that makes sense as I was only looking in the 18 foot range.

Global Marine/Progressive has always beat BoatUS rates for me.

Progressive was 50% more than what I was able to get from BoatUS even with lower deductibles from BoatUS for the pontoon I just purchased.
