I have a 1986 Shoreline trailer that is beginning to show some rust on the fenders. What is the best way to remove the rust and re-galvanize those areas? Thanks for your reply.

If it's just minor surface rust a light buff with steel wool will do then a good wax to help protect.

If the rust is cancerous [pitted] about all you can do is remove all the rust [wire wheel on drill motor works good] and paint the fender. I've never had good results with cold galvanizing...

As always, just my 2¢

Thanks, guys. It is surface rust. I spoke to a gentleman at a boat yard today and he mentioned a product that
galvanizes the damaged area- unless I heard wrong. I should of been smart and wrote it down on paper. I will post info when I get the name ofr the product.

Go to your local Lowes or Home Depot.....
In the Rattle Can Paint section you'll find Cold Galvanizing spray paint, probably several brands.... I've used the stuff by Rustolium with good luck......
When you find it, You'll Know......
The cans are Heavy in hand.... They weigh about Twice as much as a can of regular paint.....

My 1987 Shoreland'r is probably the same trailer.

I've done lots of sandblasting/acid dipping/cold galvanizing/POR-15/Rustoleum/Corroless etc. on past trailers.

This time, I'm just going to trash those rusty fenders and buy new ones. Why? Because they tend to get stepped on, and that will break the paint barrier and they will just keep rusting.

Think it's worth buying new ones that I won't have to be concerned with for a decade.

small note.. when I mentioned not the best place for trailer products I meant you can probably find places with lower prices.. nothing to do with quality. Also I checked out bass pro myself and the price on their website says from 12.99-18.99

Later
Kevin
