We have a poontoon boat that we have and the back of the boat sits low in the water the back of the toon was under the water and the boat just will not move very well seems like the boat should do a lot better than it does. Does anyone have any suggestions on our problem?

Welcome aboard. Could be anything, including water in the toons, which would be my first guess, but we basically have no info. What size barge? What size motor? How much better do you think it should do? What do you mean when you say back of toon is under water? Just the tubes, or the deck? What all is on the back of the boat? Give us something to work with and we'll try to help. Pics would be great if you can post some.

The boat is a 20' Harris with a 70 hp Evienrude, with a 13 1/4 by 17 prop. It has two 61/2 fuel tanks and battery on the back of the toons. Water was between the toons and the decking. And would like to know what could help with a little more speed it speed was ranging at 15 to 20 mph topped out.

As Incoop said it is probably water in the tubes, easiest way to tell is to pull the boat and once it is on the trailer have someone drive forward a few feet then stop suddenly then put your ear on the tube, if there is water you will be able to hear it slosh around.

Aside from that all you can do is to shift some weight forward like moving the gas, both tanks full are about 170lbs, not alot but it has to help, also whenn you ar underway have people sit forward to spread the weight better.

Are these 25'' or 23'' tubes?

I agree on water in the 'toons- I have the same size boat with same gas setup with a 110hp & mine sets up about half-toon on 23" toons - One more thing might be prop, thats the same prop i have on my 110 - mabe too much pitch on yours? I get 30mph from mine. BUT take care of the toon thing before you worry about prop & speed---

defiantly got water in those toons! My Kennedy, when it was still a 2 toober, only had 20" equivalent floatation and with a 340# 4 stroke 70hp on the back, 2-6 gallon steel cans, and a G27 battery it still had 3-4" of tube out of the water in the back at rest. It took 3 adults standing at the back rail to get the end caps to go under. Also you need a 14x13 prop.

I take it that your yoon isn't new. Would you repeat how big your fuel tank, are, is it 2 to 6 gallon tanks or 2 -62 gallon tanks.Do you have a trailer ?.If so hook it up to your boat and have someone stand by your boat and have them listen for water as you rock your boat forward and back. I have drain plugs on the bottom rear of my toons. If you have them remove then and see if anything drains out of them.
