Boat taking in water

HI,

We took our boat out this weekend for the 1st time of the season. It sat in our garage all winter, havent touched anything other than charged the batteries. I have a 2003 Sky Supreme V220. Here's where I am lost....we dropped it and when in gear we started talking on water in the engine area. We looked for a hose being loose.. nadda. If we were not in gear it was fine nothing coming in. Tonight we took it back to the ramp and dropped it in and no water would come in again.... my husband thought maybe the seal underneath might be bad or something ... so he tried spraying the hose in and it didnt appear to bring in any water in the engine compartment. HELP......it's summer .......

Ayuh,... It Could be leaking from about Anywhere,...

You've got to Find the leak, then We can help you Fix it...

It could be a shift cable boot not sealing when you put it in gear? It is a small rubber bellows on the lower right side (looking at the drive from the back) behind the outdrive bellhousing. If you tilted the drive up, and got underneath to look you might be able to see something?

Anyhow. If it's an inboard ski boat either V drive or Direct drive, the propshaft packing / seal may be leaking. If it's the packing type you may be able to tighten the collar a bit to slow the leak to a drip while under power, but don't stop the leak completely the water serves as a coolant/lubricant for the shaft seal.
If that doesn't work it's time for some new flax/packing or a new dripless setup.
