Over propped maybe?? Prop hub slipping?? Have you had it quite a while and it just started doing this or is it a recent aquisition??

Make sure the tank is properly vented. I have a 15 ft jon boat with a 20hp merc that takes off like a rocket. It jumps on plane with 2 guys and a boat load of hunting stuff.

OK, I'll guess...<br />sticky float is flooding carb?

I do believe mellow-yellow is right on here. I had a 50 h/p that did the same and I changed the floats and needle and seats out set to specks and it takes off like a stripped ape now

i took that carb of today and cleaned it and the float was sticking bad.so i let it soak for 1hr.It takes off faster then ever now.But now something ate up my water pump impeller.I took the lower unit off and gass poured out of the bottom. How could the gas be gettin down to it?

Unburned fuel will make it's way to the leg in the lower unit where it exhausts. I still think you may have problems with that float allowing too much gas to get through to the engine. Did you set the float level when you freed it up? Also, if it acts like it's sliiping into gear when you take off, it's more than likely the prop slipping on the hub, as suggested. Take it to a prop shop to verify, befroe you go looking for other problems.

i figured it out.the fuel pump was bad and it was lettin way to much gas into the carb and was clogging it up and when i went to take off there was so much fuel in the carb that it took a while for it to run all that fuel out of the carb.
