Boat Speedometer Not Working - Paddle Wheel Troubleshooting!?

Just put my first boat in the water the other day and it was a great time, however the speedo does not work. I have a 2000 Four Winns 190 Horizon with a 5.0 Volvo Penta GL. There is a paddle wheel on the transom that spins just fine.

I've looked all over Google but most of the troubleshooting involves removing the tranducer and doing electronic testing of sorts on it. Are there any specific troubleshooting methods that have worked for you? Also, can I just remove the device on the back and replace it with any new device that I buy? I do not know the brand of this one...

Thanks!
Ryan

What make is the speedometer?
You could go to their website and look for troubleshooting tips.
Also make sure any fuses are ok and all wires are connected.

paddle wheels are for fish finders. speedometer is pitot tube or new ones may be GPS, however the paddle wheel you have a pic of would have came with aftermarket sonar/depth/chart equipment.

check the back side of the speedo, follow the pitot tube.

You think maybe the previous owner removed the GPS and left the paddlewheel? I can't find a small hole on the leading edge of the exposed motor...

Agree with all dodge. Very unusual if the paddle wheel is linked to the normal speedo on the dash of a boat like that. It will 99% be a water pressure tube. They often freeze during winter and burst. Pull the hose off the gauge when running over 25mph roughly and see if water fires out it.

Thanks guys however per the owners manual, this model comes standard with a paddle wheel for the speedo. I found the model part online but it's $150 to replace. Not sure if that's the problem though because the wheel spins just fine

Friend just bought a 2008 Seadoo RXT 255 and it uses a paddle wheel at the back for the speedo. Thought it was weird but its factory
