This weekend I'll be looking at a 1978 18' Starcraft. Not sure of the model but here's the features:

Aluminum hull, open bow, walk through windshield, (I don't know the beam.)
It has an 85 evinrude v4.

I'm wondering a couple of things.
What model(s) could this be?
How well matched is the engine to this boat?
What's the max hp for this hull?
Anything in particular I should be checking out on this boat?

Thanks.

Cool, thanks. I've been hunting for just that list and came up with nada.

Re: Boat shopping

It could be a Super Sport. I had a 79 18' alum center console (Mariner) & it was rated for 115hp. The thing to look for in ALL Starcrafts is wood rot. I can virtually guarantee that the transom has problems.

Re: Boat shopping

I ended up buying it, and it is a Super Sport. The transom is solid, the floors were moderately okay except in the front. I pulled all the floors, replaced some damaged rivets in the aft, I'll gluvit it shortly. Now, I'm busy on the replacement floor panels.

All-in-all a pretty solid boat, I'm about to make it that much better.

Congrats on the boat. I did the same on my '77 SuperSport a few years back. I went overkill, and used 3/4" treated plywood. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions, or would like some ideas.

I'm using 5/8 with resin and fiberglass. I'll paint it with non-skid and some kind of aggregate for traction when it's all said and done.

Thanks for the contact.
