I have a technical boat naming question. My registration card has the boat's name listed as the manufacturer's name (i.e., Bomber). I am naming the boat Ming's Fling after my wife's nickname and am having vinyl decals made up to put on each side (an effort to smooth over the restoration costs I suppose.)
Here's my question. Should I go through a renaming ceremony? Don't want to stir up any bad luck, but I'm not sure of the technicalities. Please advise...

Howdy MWorthan. The restoration process decommissions your boat. When restoration is complete recommissioning allows renaming.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: Boat Renaming

Thank you good sir. In naming the boat is there any particular ceremony to be followed as not to p***-off Posiedon or some other otherworldly troublemaker?

Yeah, I guess a female should announce her new name and ******en her with a suitable adult beverage.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

An old sailer told me your suppose to back your boat out of your home port then remove or make the name unreadable then come back in and apply new name. I don't know if he was pulling my leg or what.

Re: Boat Renaming

Doesn't sound to me like your boat ever had a real name. Just the manufacturers name, that doesn't count a a re-nameing.
I would just put the name on the boat and toast it with a cold one of your choice.
****
