The Easiest Way,........ Is to paint in ON the trailer,.......

Get what you can get,+ shift the boat forward or backwards to get Some More............ ;)

And,..... By using the Trailer Jack,+ some Blocking,.... You can actually raise the Bow or Stern up off the trailer bed........

Where's Medford,..???......

Hi Bondo,
Medford is on long island and is about 50 miles east of new york city , just off the long island expressway. We do our boating on long island sound, which is about 15 miles wide and 100 miles long. I just bought this boat and the bottom needs to be sanded and repainted. The boat sits on rollers so it should be fairly easy to move it forward and aft. I have jacked up the trailer and boat in order to get the tires off the ground, the axil is now resting on heavy duty auto jack stands. If I blocked the stern with cement blocks and wood, then lowered tires back to the ground, most of the weight should be off the rollers in the stern. I could then use a bottle jack under the keel to raise the bow off the foward rollers. Then I could move the trailer under the boat enough to get the bottom sanded and painted. I guess I could also use the trailer jack to bring the bow up, then block under the keel and lower the trailer jack.

Have you thought about jacking the boat on the trailer enough to remove one bunk or set of rollers so you can sand and paint that area, then do the other side?

If you are able to get a scizor jack between boat and frame, it is a lot easier and safer than trying to remove the whole boat from the trailer.

Hi Mark 42,
I like your sugestion about removing the roller assemblies in order to sand and paint those areas.
I really have no need to remove the trailer to do the bottom , just want to be able to work on it.
I don't know whats involved to remove the roller assemblies , but it probably will be some rusted u bolts and nuts. I have been able to get stuff removed so far with wd 40 and a 1/2 socket set without to much trouble.
Bill

Re: boat removal from trailer

Hardball:
I just removed my 22'Skiff off my trailer to repair a plank and paint it. I made 2 stands adjustable with 1" threaded rod. I put flat plates on top and cut wood blocks at an angel to match my boat.I jacked up the back and slid them under and set her down on them. Then I took a floor jack up front were I could fit it and raised her up and moved the trailer forward. When I came to a cross brace I used a jack stand to support the front, moved the jack back and continued untill the trailer was clear then blocked
the bow. It worked great. I worked on a creeper and got done quick.Oh ya if your going to remove the old paint or want to prep it you might want to try a bodyshop DA with 80 grit paper it work great too.
Good luck
The Beef :D
Ps If you want pics of the stands to build them let me know Ill send them.
18' piece of cake!

Hi Beef,
I am thinking about changing my keel rollers; and if I can remove the trailer under the boat using your home made jack stands and floor jack, that'll be great! Would you post the picture(s) here? (Email me if you'd like me to explain how to do it). Thanks! :)
