Early in Dec. I went to Boats.com, and they rated the top 20 for the month of Nov. Then I got curious as to how and why they were rated 1 to 20 in that order. Iwrote them a letter, and here is the response...QUOTE."As you might imagine, the larger quantity, mass produced boats tends to have a stronger brand recognition, so more consumers start their research looking at these boats. Some customers buy on price point, others on quality and others still on the look -- that's why we have more than 400 manufacturers in the US -- a wide selection for all tastes"End Quote,verbatum.. I thought I would pass this on to all. and my quote " No one is going to bad mouth the boat they now own".

Re: BOAT RATINGS

also in boat magazines you aren't going to see anything real negative about a boat company that does advertising with that mag.and the chances are slim to see a boat tested that doesn't already advertise in that mag. .........just an observation

I think you are correct when it comes to mag. ads, but that's not what the list is based on, take a look at the ratings and see if you agree.

Persuit 2150,
I just checked out their web site and I had to chuckle. I was quite surprised to see the results. All of the boat manufactures are affiliates of boats.com. The votes are based on the amount of search hits by people for a specific brand of boat. It has nothing to do with quality or the like.
Here are the top five from the power boat list...

Power Boat New
1.Bayliner
2.Searay
3.Crestliner
4.Boston Whaler
5.Grady White(Yippee)
19.Persuit

Power Boat Pre-owned
1.Bayliner
2.Searay
3.Wellcraft
4.Carver
5.Chris-Craft

Maybe we can start a forum on the top five boats other that the one we own.
Oh by the way, I love my Grady White but I have been looking real hard at a Boston Whaler.

Re: BOAT RATINGS

The way I understand the boats.com rating system it has nothing to do with quality, money or other good things. It only reflects the number of people who used the web site to inquire about a specific brand.

Re: BOAT RATINGS

That's the exact point I wanted to make. That's why I wrote them a letter, and posted the answer they gave. So bottom line "How does a new boater decide which is the best boat to buy"? In reality you have to rely on what the owners are saying.

pursuit, i totally agree ,boat ratings really need to be analyzed.most of them are propaganda. a person needs to educate them selves ,take the ratings with a grain of salt

Re: BOAT RATINGS

Go to www.jdpower.com and you can see what boats rate by customer satisfaction rather than search hits. They break the boats down into three groups: Power, Runabout and Sail.
