So, I'm out fishing with my 14 ft tinny with a 25hp motor a couple of summers ago-out on the lake with another friend in his own boat. We were working the shallows throwing plugs and bobbers out.
Not much was happening, so I was moving around a lot, trying to find a decent piece of structure to work off of. As I'm tooling over to the next spot on the shorline, the boat starts to jerk to the left for some strange reason. I'm just puttering along...and the bow would pull to the left. Can't seem to figure it out, so I keep going. The motor seemed to be operating properly and I can't seem to figure out for the life of me why I'm having this problem.
Well, I get to where I want to go. I shut down the motor and work my way to the front to drop the anchor......
Yup, forgot to pull it up before I took off. I pulled up a hedge worth of milfoil off that anchor...apparently the jerking was when it would get hung up enough on the vegetation to jerk the bow. Fortunately the bottom was all sand and silt/mud so I never had a chance to get hung up on a rock formation...that could have been bad.
Just goes to show that you can overlook something easily when you start to get caught up in the moment. Clear heads prevail, but sometimes clear heads can get easily clouded, even if for but a brief, inopportune moment.
