Seen a guy who had his boat setting back on his trailer about 6 inches from full forward position. I asked him about it and he said the dealer told him to transport it like that. Anybody hear of such a thing???
Thanks, Greg

What would be the reason for that? Could it be that the dealer didn't have the right trailer for that boat?
Stalker

The transom must be supported by the bunks or rollers, otherwise the boat can be damaged. Once this is accomplished, either the boat or the axle(s) are moved to achieve the correct tongue weight.

If by "full forward position" you mean the trailer's bow stop and the bow of the boat wasn't snugged up to it, then either he or the dealer is an idiot!

The first time he makes a sudden stop the boat will move on the trailer and slam into the bow stop or possibly ride over it and into the tow vehicle.

Gap between bow and bow stop must have been 6"- 1'.... I asked what happens if he hits the brakes?? He said thats what the stern straps are for.... Seems scary to me. I've never heard of such a thing.... Thanks, Greg

Caraaazee! That's like having a spike in place of an airbag... active safety... i.e you HAVE to drive without ever braking harshly or crashing. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Musta been the same dealer that set up my boat trailer - they sent me out with 75 lbs tongue wt on a rig that was over 10,000 lbs and improperly routed brake lines.

Just because someone is a dealer doesn't necessarily make them an expert, or for that matter even knowledgeable. You might expect them to be but in the end its buyer beware. In many cases you really have no idea who is setting up your rig. Might be a student they hired for the summer who was given 10 minutes of instructions. Being well informed and having a bit of common sence goes a long ways.
