My boat quit circulating water so I changed the water pump impeller which really didn't look bad at all. After putting it back together it peed just fine for a while during my next use of the boat. Even though it peed it didn't seem to be a full stream as it had peed before. I shut it off fished a while but when I started the boat again it got hot and set off the siren. Luckily I wasn't too far from my dock and I trolled it back in and took it home to work on it. (Me working on it could be the problem it itself) I am an old Yamaha motorcycle mechanic two stroke and four stroke but I must admit I've been out of that business for forty years. Anyway I took out the thermostat and checked it in boiling water and it opened fine. When I ran it in my water tank without the thermostat it peed again. I've ordered a new thermostat but I don't think that's the problem. I put an air hose to every line and blew them out. I blew out the fuel water separator on the side and all the way to the water jacket. Even when I put the old thermostat back in it will pee for a while then quit. I've ordered a new one. When it quits peeing I take out the thermostat while it is open and hot and there is no water pumping up through the head to the thermostat. I am pretty sure the water pump impeller was installed correctly. I know the shaft turns clockwise so I paid attention and rotated it clockwise to get the impeller back in. I'm about ready to take the bottom unit back off to check it all again but it seems to me that if it pumps water and pees some of the time it would be installed correctly. Sorry for the long post. Does anyone have any ideas what I could be missing?
