Boat only runs in reverse

I got my boat back from the marina who set it up for the season and at first the prop wouldn’t spin in either gear. I noticed i could spin it freely by hand. I then put it in gear and couldn’t spin the prop. I put the boat back in the water and got the prop to spin. I backed off the trailer in reverse and then put it in forward gear and it kept going in reverse. Any ideas? Cables hooked up wrong? I have a 90 horse Mercury.

What kind of work did they do to it?
Did they remove the lower unit?
Did they remove or replace the cables?

A 1965 , 1979 or 2000 model ?----A six cylinder inline or 3 cylinder ?---But call the shop.----Perhaps they had a novice mechanic on the job.

Sounds like a misaligned shift shaft if they replace the water pump and had to drop the lower unit. Take it back and explain the problem to a mechanic old enough to shave..
