Re: Boat off trailer on freeway!
I broke a ball hitch at speed once.
Safety chains kept it in tow.
Tongue dug up a couple hundred feet of asphalt.
Asphalt ripped up a couple of inches of tongue.
Impact with lousy back road patchs caved in the winch tower a bit.
Strong tie downs helped limit the damage.
Tow bar on the engine and a strong transom limited the damage.
Dumped the boat in the lake, ran into town and took off the winch tower, beat it back into shape, added a little reinforcing and repair weld, put it back on the trailer, and went back to the lake where my wife had gotten the jump on me in the fishing department.
Redundant rigging doesn't make sense until something fails, then it's not redundant, but the item that saves the day.
hope it helps
