welcome aboard

what does the paperwork (title, registration, bill of sale) say it is.

without those, it is most likely a yard planter. Depends on location, however if your neighbor didnt have the paperwork or registered in his name, he legally didnt own it and neither do you.

looks much older than 1974. look for a HIN

Where in Cali are you? Look for the HIN most likely somewhere on the transom. It's a nice looking classic if restored.

Thanks for the reply, I'm in mid upper So. CA the bill of sale says "1974 20' boat" the guy does body work and welding and looks like it was getting preped for body work. I've gone over the boat, and there is no visible markings. It might have had a plate at one time, but any id other then CA. Boat numbers nothing.
I'm heading to the DMV soon but it's a half day trip. Thanks again for your help.

be wary of an automotive paint and body guy doing work on a boat. you cant use automotive fillers on a boat hull.

You said you "got" the boat, did he dump it on you, give it to you or did you buy it? There's no registraion sticker on it either. What paperwork did he have on it and the trailer? Bill of sale means nothing how about pink slip and registration?

There is a registration sticker both sides, it's real faded tho. I appreciate the concern but I'm not worried about the bill of sale, registration, pink slip, or title at the moment. That will play out with the DMV. I guess it be better when we talk with them. For now I'm searching for info. Thanks

If it's a "hot boat" then I'm out $200. And I helped a boat owner get there girl back! It's a win no matter what 😜

Old boats will cost you about $4000 to restore the hull and about $2500-$3000 for an interior. Not to mention, you need a motor and rigging

Ya, my pop always told me "Son a boats just a hole you dump money in. It's better to just find a friend with a boat" so I figured I'd be dropping some green backs if I wanted her to float enough to take the family out diving. I'm getting to old to lug 35lbs tanks down stairs and across beaches😀

State doesnt have any info for CF 5821 CG? California is it? They should have hull number last registered owner and make\model. Wouldnt that be public info...maybe for a fee?

Sharp looking boat!
