I am a rather new boater with an old boat
I have a 1973 Starcraft 17' tri hull with a merc 140 IO.
I just purchased a lift to keep the boat at a piece of property that i bought on a channel
I will have to replace the bunks and relocate them for this boat.

Do you have any tips or suggestions on how to set up the lift. the lift is a shoremaster 5,000 lb steel cantilever lift.

Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated

Thanks, Mike

Re: Boat Lift Setup

I don't have much boat mechanic experience, however every summer i have set up boat lifts. i am not sure what you are asking? help as to how to set the lift up? i would recommend using the manual. When i put ours together it took FOREVER! lots of parts.

make sure you have it anchored down well. one of the problems i kept having in the beginning was the lifts would move!

Re: Boat Lift Setup

snaking the cable through all of the parts is kinda weird...
Like Gfriedm1, I have assembled many... but not sure what you need to know... not sure I could type the explanation if I did know...
As far as bunk position: under the horizontal chines that line up with the boats stringers is always best.. but your starcraft's hull is probably not that fragile and would be fine with bunks anywhere...

Store the boat high.
Waves can come up and hit the boat and wash the boat and lift away, or wash the boat off.
Lifts not good where water levels fluctuate.
Marine railways are the way to go in those areas.
