Boat Identification - please help

I am posting this for a friend, he has what we thought was a 1978 campion ski boat. But someone has told us that is not what it is. I have tried running the hin number and it comes back as a invalid hin. The hin on the title and boat match, so I know that it is correct. just wondering if anyone can Identify the boat?

here is the information off the title, it is a washington state boat.

HIN: ZB1222187M78 (yes this is tripple checked correct on both the boat and title.)
Registration number: WN799DF
Model Year: 1978
Manufacturer: CAMPIO
Series-body: POGPR

A little more info would go a long way to helping to figure this one out.
I/O, inboard, or outboard engine size/HP
Length O/A
and pictures if possible. Doing a google search brings back bigger boats than a traditional ski boat. Good luck with the hunt!!!

It is a outboard, rated for 115hp. it is 16ft ski boat.

MIC id in the hull number indicates it is a Campion.


They used hulls with both the PNA and ZBI mic id code.

Thanks for the info; Ive tried looking it up on the links and by campion boats. I still cant find the boat make/model/year in any sorta archive!!! It doesnt really make sense? I haven't found Any sorta info on the boat type either! like the history of the body style!

is this a rare boat? considering i may sell it or not. the Hin doesn't match anything! it keeps coming up invalid.

Again thanks all for the info. and if anyone does know anything about these boats that would be great! Hopefully i will have pictures soon of the boat completely put back together. yay its all black now!

I own a 1978 Campion 17' open bow that was manufactured in Moses Lake, WA. I havn't been able to find any photos or anything that looks like it.
Its pretty plane jane, but is ok for our first boat.
Have some work to do on it - packrats ate the carpet and canopy.

The boat is identical with the 1975 Sidewinder boats made in Washington. They were also made in Canada under the name of Cobra.

Make sure when checking the HIN you are checking it as ZBI not ZB1. That may be your problem with getting the "invalid HIN" error
