I think that the jet-skiier should help defray the cost of that... his fault you hit the marker or buoy.

your too nice, you sacrificed your boat for a jet skier.i would think any boat shop can order you a thru hull fitting and have it in a day so that you can go fishing on the weekend

Re: BOAT HULL PLEASE -------HELP!!!!!

you should have hit the Jetskier,, if the laws over there are the same as here, he had to give way to you, and shouldn't have been within 90 feet of you boat at any time..

And since you were nice enough to not hit him when he was clearly to close to your boat, he should be paying all costs..

B@stards,, i hate Jet skies and their owners, so few of them have any respect for other people on the water.. the hull on my boat is really scratched and all because of w@nkers on jet skies.

(no I don't run them over, they just make a point of going 60miles an hour just behind any boat thats being pulled onto a trailer, the big bow wave from a jetski doing 60miles 3 feet behind my boat heaves it off the rollers and the steel trailer scratches the crap out of my hull..

I am in the midst of modifing the trailer so that the boat can't move once the first 1/3 of the boat is on the trailer.

They should have open season on jetski's that display that sort of behavious..

rgds

Frank

PS, I am sorry for what happened to you, wish you the best of luck.

I'm informed, and I don't know how reliable this is, that coiled bamboo strips thrown in the way of the jet unit can cause damage to the jet unit over the course of an hour or so. I imagine it gets sucked up and causes some sort of problem!
Ross
PS As it would of course then require a tow home.........

As an owner of a jet ski and a 23' boat i understand both sides to the story. Most jetskiers are uneducated on marine rules as are some boaters. I have been in the intracoastal waterway trying to get somewhere in my boat and half of the people in boats are going 1 mph or meandering back and forth. There are a lot of boat owners that have no clue how to act on the water. It goes both ways, stupid people are everywhere!

Re: BOAT HULL PLEASE -------HELP!!!!!

I was in a back water tributary fishing on one of my favorite rivers catching fish. Since it was a half mile from the river, back in the woods and really narrow I wasn't really worried about any traffic. Then I heard them!!! Three PWC's hauling A$$. When they came around a curve and saw me all they could do was hit the bank and go into the woods. I'll never forget the sound of those machines bouncing of the trees! I had to haul two of them back to the ramp so they could be taken to the hospital.

All I know is they were hurt pretty bad and two of the machines looked totaled. The 3rd guy was able to get slowed down before he hit the bank and stopped shortly there after. I've ridden the things before and they are fun, but you've got to use your head and respect others.

Yes, there are some stupid people all over..

However pursesnatcher,, I would have to say that it doens't usually cause damage to the jetski's when a boat does something stupid, because more often then not, jetski's can get out of the way alot easier.. we have two examples on this list where jetski's have actually damaged two boats through their rampant hormoans and stupidity... how many Jetski's have been damaged from a boaters stupidity?

For starters, the laws around here state that a Jetski or PWC has to stay 30 meters or more away from powerboats, (and I think its more for sail powered vessels.)

Unfortunatly, they forgot to tell the owners of this most wonderful rule, as a result, I have about 500 bucks damage to the bottom of my boat and you have my word that the next time I put my boat on the trailer, I'll be waiting beside it with an oar.. I pitty the @sshole that Flybies the back of my boat..

I have had enough, they are starting to talk about banning them on the river here, (Western Australia) and I hope they do...
they do more damage to the shoreline.. and the owners usually know nothing about marine enviros.. so they should be banned from all but dedicated JetSki areas... then we can all breath a sigh of release,, as a general rule, people who own these things are yuppi's and do it for one or two reasons, its cool, and its fast.. (there are exceptions to this rule, but thats the main reasons..)

Ban then I say, or introduce PWC season.. for 3 months of every year, I should get 20 dollars for every Jet intack I bring to the department of Marine...

Hate them Lusers.

rgds

Frank

PS, the @ssholes that did flybies past my boat saw me swearing at cursing then, and saw what they did to my boat, and they kept on doing it,, would else can I do but hit them with an oar?? if they call the cops I'll say that I thought they were attacking me since they came flying up at 60miles an hour..... I can make that stick... (plus the area I live in all hate them. :)

Re: BOAT HULL PLEASE -------HELP!!!!!

That's good, they were attacking me... I took a trip to a lake last summer and brought along a few quarter sticks. As i was cruising, there were a few jetskis following me jumping my wakes and whatnot. I thought about how cool it would be to light a couple and drop them off the back of the boat, and hope they go off right as the jetski's were close; right out of a James Bond movie. Remember, I only thought about it. If I would have had one of them damage my boat like Franki, I think I would have waited in the parking lot for them and thrown one inside their tow vehicle while it was unoccupied. BOAT RAGE!
