Hi All
This is the email I sent to EZ Loader company.

I have a 1990 EZ Loader boat trailer 1ZE1MCU11LA023232 res-co 27 I think the max cap is 1250 lbs. I need to increase this to 2000 lbs. (boat grew) What axle and tires would you reccomend? Thanks Link

Well big companies don't always respond so I thought I would ask in here. And read every post and did searches..

The trailer has rollers and is a single axle with 480 X 12B tires rated at 780 lbs. On the trailer tounge it says GVRW 1560 Max pay load 1250. The trailer lic says SCLWT 328 I think the trailer should be around 350lbs with the added side bunks, spare tire etc.
Since most all of the smaller trailers 21ft and below use the same tubing rollers bunks etc to change the pay load it should just be a matter of changing the axle w/springs and tires.

The problem is that when I bought my welded alum river sled in 1990 it was a bare bones hull with a 45hp prop. I think I've almost doubled the weight of the boat and it is at around 2000 pounds now. When I measured it from the back of the old motor to the bow it was like 15 feet. Now it's 18 feet (it really did grow) anchore and anchore can, 18" motor extention and transom jack 90 HP pump :)

Anyway my plan:
I'm going to find a place that will let me un hook the the boat and trailer to weigh them. Then buy a axle and tires for the correct weight! Then deduct 350 lbs for the trailer (I need to know the weight of the boat so I can add enough flotation as this has become a project boat)

Any holes in my plan here? Already found holes in the boat but thats anouther story for the stupid things we do section LOL

Thanks Link

I Just purchased a new 2000# Venture Trailer, But while I was doing research on trailers I found out that the only difference in weight rating was the load carring capicity of the tires. Go Figure? Check out the ez-loader web site and see if the same size trailer as different ratings if so check the tire ratings.

Good Luck!

Hi JGREGORY :
Thanks for the post:
I did and my trailer is too old but I also found out about the same thing with other trailers. But I did get some good information from a guy I have coffee with several time a week. He told me to drive down HWY I5 a few miles after 6 pm when the people went home at the Scales for truckers and use them. (he is a trucker) He said they leave the scale operational so the truckers can still use them. I did, and they do! :) I first pulled the boat and trailer onto them and went to the window and it read 1550... so I jack up the tounge and took it off the tow veh.. it went to 1660... Hmmm 110 lb tounge weight! Came home and put the trailer jack on the bathroom scale and it read 110 lbs.. deducted 350 lbs for the trailer and the boat weighs in at 1310... then I started a list and weighing all the stuff that isn't on the boat yet.. it will be reall close to 1800 when I'm finished. Right now its at 1500 and I still have 10 items left.. a trolling gas motor and electric winch for the anchore being just two. Will do that tomorrow and make a post
Thanks
Link

Thanks bubbaboater
Yes I finaly got a one line answer from EZ Loader: "Wasn't designed for that weight. Can't be done!" Sounded more like a disclaimer than anything else to me! But in this sue happy world I don't blaim them much. I'm at the website now bubbaboater and will give them the same information and see what they have to say.

Thanks Link
