[sigh]

Out on the lake yesterday after just doing a head job on the boat. Volvo AQ 125 A overhead cam slanted 4. Any ways I went out their and it started right up and was running perfectly. ran around for about 20 min and came back to dock... While idling on the way back it kinda idled down and died. I have it narrowed down to fuel/ignition. Any one have any ideas?

Boat is a 1981 bayliner as is the engine.

Thanks

Re: Boat died and wont start

well im getting fuel i can see it come out of the acceloratorline thing. Rotar is spinning fine or appearse to be. I dont beleive the belt slipped. However is their supposed to be play in the roatar becouse i could push it back about 1/2 an inch...

Since i just changed all the fuel and put new in i doubt its water in the fuel + the spark plugs look descent (no white marks). So with that said think i should start poking aroud in the electrical department?

What do you mean push it back 1/2".Turn it back and forth/rotate it?Points and condenser? if so check timming. Turning distributor will change timming.
fish

if u can turn the rotor in a clockwise or opposite direction, thats the mechanical advance if its a point type distibutor.there should be no lateral play in the shaft as in side to side. any chance its flooding over.let it set for a few minutes, then try it again holding the throttle open a little for more air.

i would be looking at the ignition system and coil. how did you check for spark? check volts to + side of coil with volt meter.

Again, you might be looking at a bad ground wire or connection.
Simply add another ground wire from the battery to a clean spot on the engine and see if it changes anything.
A bad ground wire or ground connection can cause this kind of problem and it is hard to SEE the problem..... it is a very common problem.
