Looking at selling our boat had it for two years. Average use each season. just wondering what the avg annual depreciation on a used boat is? 1996 17 ft Starcraft bowrider with a 125 merc outboard (2004).
(in calgary)
Thanks

Re: Boat depreciation?

There's not any depreciation on a small 15 year old boat. It's all about the condition the boat and motor are in when they're that old.

45 is right; on that rig the value is in the motor since it's not that old.

Main point to the above comments (to me anyway) is to keep it out of the sun.....period. I think it's a known fact that anything that looks great, must automatically perform great and vice-versa. I have a '02 Merc on an alum boat (nothing fancy there) with a big shiny SS prop, and you'd be surprised at the compliments it gets. I keep it clean and the engine is as shiny as the day it came off the show room floor.....keep the skeg out of the sand too...that shows that you are careful with your equipment.....yeah, I know some people like to fish/run their boats in shallow water, but this guy is addressing resale value....value to me anyway.

Yup, it's all about condition, condition, and condition. You can't go by the age. If you've kept it up, I wouldn't think there would be much depreciation at all. On the other hand, if you left it outside, swamped, etc - it would depretiate much more.

Secondly is the local market. Have things changed much in the last two years in your area? Economy, gas prices, other factors making people want to get out on a boat more or less? Those will also affect the value.

Thanks for info helps! Out of curiosity what would a 2004 merc 125 elpto freshwater one scratch on the skeg less than 75 hours go for?

don't have it advertised as yet. I am in Calgary Alberta Canada. Based on the model of both motor and boat it's difficult to find info. It's our first boat and looking to get back to jetskis.

75 hours in 7 years would worry me. But many buyers think low hours are good!
