Boat cover - for in water docking, not on a trailer

I live on a pond in Maine and just got a new aluminum boat (71 Crestliner). It has a windshield, wheel, etc. 14'.

All the covers I am finding online have them tied down to the trailer. What can I use to cover the boat docked in the water?

Thanks.

What you're looking for is a mooring cover. Search online with that term and you may get better results. There are literally hundreds of people manufacturing mooring and trailering covers. Most cinch up with either a drawstring below the rubrail or require snaps/90? fitting for installation.

All the mooring covers on-line will show straps, but these are used for towing only -- this makes the mooring cover 'trailerable'. If the cover has elastic around the edge, it's a mooring cover and you can use it while the boat is docked or just sitting on a trailer and not being moved. Just about all will come with straps or offer them as an add-on (and they are always pictured!). The straps are not permanently attached; you use them by looping them on. Most come with clips to connect to themselves.

Your size boat has plenty of options for what I described: Basic cover with elastic. If there are straps in the pic, that doesn't mean it isn't a mooring cover.

In a few mins, I will post links.

Or just do it the way us Rednecks do----buy a regular boat cover and tie plastic jugs filled with water on the straps.:D

Thank you all for the information. I now understand what a mooring cover is and that I can use a trailerable cover as well. For my needs, I think i prefer the Red neck solution and the Asian Escort Service from Calgary. It's a win-win.

Have a cover made and install snaps around the boat and on the cover. Instal poles to keep cover up and your good to go. Easy on Easy off.

Yup, an exact fit cover won't pool water on the top. Those multi fits are a PITA. they don't stay tight, they cover the cleats and they look shabby, even new. If you get a cover that's made for the boat you can tie the boat to the dock and still keep rain and junk out of the boat when it's sitting there.

I think the OP has demonstrated sufficient aversion to remunerating anyone; ergo, the basic cover with jugs o' water.

unfortunately, they don't make exact fit covers for classic boats any more. Now where am I going to find someone to make me a cover in rural Maine? Not going to happen, so I think I must get a standard cover.

Where did the Asian escort post go? I never wrote down the web address. Who flagged it?

Try a local upholstery shop.
