Hi All,

I am getting to the point where my 93 Lowe 1706 needs a new carpet job. my question is should I spend a small fortune and get marine grade carpet from somewhere or is some home depot outdoor carpet good enough?

Thanks
Zipp

home depot carpet is good enough if you want to re-do it in a few years.

How durable is the marine grade carpet?
What would be a good source to get it from?

Thanks

There are lots of places to buy marine carpet. I bought mine on Ebay from a marine carpet dealer. And you can pick the color and weight and even get samples if you like. But most of them are from Georgia carpet mills. I look at it this way, do it right the first time and then forget about it. In the long run it is the cheapest way to do most anything. Trying to cut corners to save a buck now, means you will be doing it again before you want to. JMHO

Home depot carpet will last a very long time unless you leave your boat out to be ravaged by the elements, then nothing will stand up to the seasons of neglect. Most peoples boats spend 90% of their life in the driveway or moored.

Use a UV inhibitor water proofer on whatever carpet you decide on too. I like 303 fabric guard.

I found some at the local Cabelas where they have some samples. 8' wide by 20' long 14oz weight for $211
Should I be looking at higher weight?

Try Perfect Fit McDonald Douglas they should carry marine carpet they ship and are one of the best priced fabric distributors. How’s the sub floor will it survive stripping the old carpet and be integral enough for the new carpet to stick to.
