I am in the process of resealing the deck on my boat. I tore the carpet up sanded it all down to get the remaining glue off and was left with some decent looking wood(surprised). I Laid 2 part epoxy over it epoxyresin/hardener and it is now dry. Prior to glueing down the carpet do i need to roughen up the epoxy with sandpaper? It dried with a very smooth glasslike finish. Or will the carpet glue stick fine as it?. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

hi, welcome to iboats !

you dont need to scuff the epoxy before you lay the new rug......the indoor outdoor glue you use to lay the carpet is really good.

if you wish, you can scuff it.....and remove the annime blush from the epoxy, but it is not critical.

Thank you for the welcome as well as the quick response! I am planning on using the ROBERTS? 6700
Outdoor Carpet Adhesive. Should work fine from what ive read. This product should work fine correct?

Amine blush from the epoxy could affect an adhesive, just as it can affect paint adhesion. Sand it with some 180 or 220 grit paper (or don't sand, your choice--I would do so if using paint or other paint-on coating, I would not bother for carpet adhesive); but make sure you wash it down real good with some warm water and ammonia, followed by a real good water rinse, then wipe down afterward with some rubbing alcohol, and let it dry fully. This will get rid of amine blush and any grease/oil spots. Make sure the epoxy is FULLY set first, as in like at least a week (preferably 2 weeks) old.

My experience with that adhesive has been excellent.
