My husband wants to buy a fishing boat and I want a cruiser boat. I Would like a suggestion as to what to look for. A sportfish is the perfect solution; however, they are out of our price range. Furthermore, we both like easy access to the flybridge, as in molded steps. (no ladder!) We also like easy access to the bow, as in a walk-thru bridge, or molded side steps that provides access to the bow.
The price range needs to be less than $100K and not over 7 yrs. old.

Re: Boat Buying Recommendation

First time poster :)
Welcome!
There's a lot of manufacturers out there... maybe the best way to go about it is to go to a 'boat show'. There you can compare different styles and brands side by side and decide what's best for you. Good luck!

It'll be a 20 year old sport fish for that money. And the molded stairs are in the newer models, Carvers, Silvertons to name a few. If he likes to fish, you may want a name brand/seaworthy boat as well. Late 80's Luhrs' and Silvertons are reasonable. But again, no stairs. Have you looked at the Grady White Marlin? $100k will get you in the 7 yr. ballpark, nice cabin for 2, and fishable, easy to handle/dock. Boat Shows are happening now!!!

Plan on attending the annual Miami boat show. It has a reputation of being the largest in the world. If it floats it will be represented there.

Re: Boat Buying Recommendation

you all but described a sportfish express, but no flybridge. just can't think of a sportfish with molded steps that isn't huge and out of your price range.

agree you'll need to look at older models to stay in that price range. also check the 80's trojans.

you never say what size you're looking for. marlin may be the answer, or a number of the larger walks they now sell. unfortunately, most manufacturers are just now making them and there are few used to buy.
