Has anyone used the device known as "boat buddie"? It mounts on the trailer where the winch is and basically allows one to drive the boat on until it engages and locks. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know the disadvantages or problems and/or whether is does what it states it will.

Re: Boat Buddie

i've used it, i don't have one on my trailer but a friend does.

it works on the first hit most of the time. if the boat is loaded differently or if the ramp has a weird angle or you aren't positioned on the trailer correctly, the bow eye might not trip the bolt to lock it down. it also might trip the bolt but miss the bow eye. the worst case scenario is you back the boat out a bit, reset the boat buddy, and go again.

the key is that the bow eye must slide into the sweet spot on the buddy for it to be tripped and to grab the bow eye.

it worked probably around 90-95% of the time for us on the same ramp with the same load.
