is there any significance to a lapstrake body as opposed to a flat sided body? i have had both (deep V-hulls) but have not noticed any differences. thank you.

Re: boat body

I assume both are glass? If the boats are glass, the lapstrake design was to make it sort of look like the old wooden boats. The side benifit is that the "lapstrake" sides would be more stiff, but would also weigh a bit more due to the extra material as opposed to the flat sided boat.

If it is wooden boats, then the fact that the lapstrake design is individual boards would allow for the possibility of more leak points compared to a flat sided constuction.

Hi Kickpic, Not to get off your subject at hand, but I am also from Holliston. Don't find too many on the board from around this area. Where do you normally use the boat(s)? Take care..

Re: boat body

Now the Mass boaters are coming out of the woodwork... :) I havent tried Wallum Lake but have also heard it was good. Usually use the boat in New Hampshire at a lake where we have a summer place on. If down here, we go to Webster Lake, Cochituate Lake or Lake Quinsigamond. Sorry about hijacking the original post Kickpic.

Re: boat body

welcome aboard. i use the 20' "lapstrake" fibreglass on the charles, mystic, essex, and merrimack rivers. also have been in N.H., whitehall, boston harbor, plymouth, cochituate, and webster. it operates well in salt water because of the deep-V and hi-sides. running a 1975 merc 850 O/B. this is primarily used for fishing and does have a walk-thru windshield that allows for a lot of space. nothing fancy, but heavy enough to handle small seas. looking to try the parker river next. any advice?
