Due to seven inches of rain in 24 hours my brothers boat sunk. He was able to get it out but doesn't know what steps he should take to get the motor going again.
The motor is a 3 cylinder 130 hp inboard yamaha L43.0
We know we need to drain the oil but that's all we know to do right now.

I don't know all the steps to take but i would take the spark plugs out and spray wd 40 in the cylenders and the rest of the moter untill the experts on here fill you in on the rest. I know that the longer it is out of the water befor you get it dried out and running the more problems you will have.

Bummer ! is this Fresh water or Salt ?

In any case beleive it or not, if you dont intend to work on it right away leave it in Freshwater !! DONT let the water Dry Inside !!! Sometimes if you cant leave in submersed, soak it down with Fresh water and Bag it up !! seal it !! Worst thing is letting them dry out, this is what seizes stuff up !

When your ready to work on it, Pull the Plugs from everywhere Possible and Pump in the Oil !! Spray cans of Fogging oil will work well. Pull the spark plugs, Drain the Oil Sump ( 4 stroke ) Drain the fuel, and Fog everything. Refill the Cranckcase with oil and spin the Motor Over ! with out the Spark Plugs in it. Work that Motor over by spinning and Oiling, spinning and Oiling. You need to flush that water out and displace it.

Dry gas any Fuel lines and Carb.

Hope it was fresh water, I am sure you know Saltwater is worse !!

Did the electrical system go under? If so, you will have nothing but problems for the rest of your life with this boat. Turn in the claim and take the money---you could also try to sell the salvage yourself.

alcohol mixes with water and is much easier to flush out. by doing this twice then drying the ignition with a hair drier and draining the carbs refill with fresh oil then try to restart it this works in 2 cycle motors especially
