Hello iboats member. I have a question I read alot of questions in here on new or nearly new, boats, motors and things like that in these forums. Coming from the auto dealership/repair business I am no newbie to warrenties and repair issues with cars and trucks. But my question is, what is the warrentee that comes with a new boat and motor? It seems to me after reading these forums that either the boat manufacturing industry doesn't stand behind there products very well, ie short warrenty and poor customer service. I know for a fact that if I don't treat my customers right and fix there concerns so that the customer can enjoy his or her vehicle that the manufacturer will get involved and resolve the issue. This doesn't seem to be the case in the boating business. Am I way off base or is this the case. Opinions wanted please.

Matt

Matt-I'd have to say you're a little off base...we as boat dealers are just as concerned about our customers and their machines as car dealers are about their customers...difference being that we service RECREATIONAL vehicles versus a necessary vehicle to get to work..as for warranty,Honda-Yamaha-Merc-they do what their warranty says and most times even a little more in the interest of customer goodwill...warranties vary with motor brand and an extended policy is usually a safe investment

No, you're not off base. There are some excellent boat dealers but, unfortunately, there are many more who lose interest in you after the sale. You typically won't be buying another boat for a good long while and they're more interested in their short-term profits. This is true of some manufacturers, too. A lot of buck-passing goes on. This is a major issue in the industry right now. The key is to make sure that there is absolutely no problems with the rig before you accept delivery. After that, it sometimes gets more difficult to get problems corrected. Just my opinion.
