I have a 19' open bow - I story my boat anchor under the very front seat
sometimes the rope tangles and leaves one hell of a mess

what do you guys use? I think there is some rope harness, or spool/reel I could buy to keep it from being a rat nest

I've searched but can't seem to get the right term or key word

in my boat an anchor well. line goes in the hawse, comes out, never tangles.

in my fishing boat, a milk crate. line gets pulled up, and fed into the milk crate. then I toss the anchor on top. when I get to where I need, I simply toss the anchor over and tie it to a cleat. never had it tangle.

if you are trying to wind it nice, stop, this is what tangles the rope.

hmm..i bet your right, im' trying to coil it to try to NOT let it get tangled, but if I just drop the line into the opening, it will lay there and SHOULD be ok....hmm..i'll try that, great point

On my open bow, I have about 9ft of chain, a 5kg Bruce anchor and about 50ft of rope. Always held in anything up to about 20ft of water...even in strong winds.
Its also kept under the front bow seat. Just need to be careful of the chain damaging the gel coat on deployment and recovery and put it all back neatly ready for the next time it’s needed in a hurry.

Coiling in one direction, around your arm or whatever will add a 1/4 turn of twist to the line with every loop. Look up lap coil or butterfly coil. This is a way that coils a line left side then right side alternately that will leave it less likely to tangle. One could also pack it in a bag from bottom to top like a throw bag.

I have both a MInn Kota deck hand electric on the front and a Anchor mate manual on the back.

The Anchor mate is fool proof and indestructible.

You just reel up the anchor, couldn't be easier.

The deck hand has been really good also, the only thing that has ever gone wrong is the nylon gear stripped because I was leaving the anchor hang under tension all the time.

Since I started storing the anchor on the boat I haven't had any issues and it is years old.

Cost is the biggest difference, Deck Hand is $125 ish Anchor mate closer to 40.
