I hope this is the correct section to post this.

I have a new-to-me 1992 Searay 240BR and I need to find the location of the engine alarm for the water temp and oil pressure. I do not get an alarm test sound when the key is in the on position not running so I don't know where the sounds should come from. I don't see one under the dash. Is it located in the bilge or somewhere else? Please advise.

under the dash, however being a 1992, your boat may not have one.

Its should be under the helm and is about the size of a quarter and about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick and black. It has a Purple wire on one side and a Tan/Blue on the other

I'll look again but I did not see one before.

If I don't have one, I want to add one. I assume it is as easy as getting a buzzer and providing 12v. to 1 side and the other goes to a water temp sender that grounds out when the high temp is reached. Same for oil pressure. Can be the same buzzer for both. Is that correct? '

I DO have an oil pressure sender that is located on the top rear of the motor next to the distributor. (Mercruiser 350). I believe that sends the pressure to the oil pressure gauge. I assume the Alarm would be a different switch. Where would that be located to see if I have one already. Same for water temp. I see the temps gauge sender on the thermostat housing. I assume the alarm switch would be somewhere else if I had one?

Without going crazy, is there any other think I would want to alarm?

on an SBC, the second switch would be near the oil filter embossment.

its up to you, however nothing works better than simply watching the gauges. you should be scanning the gauges every 7-10 seconds anyway.

It could be someone remove the alarm, look for part number 84-8M3001068 and you can find it cheaper then this site
http://www.crowleymarine.com/parts/...RewWjTV0--wuJALcieFpRBOFoTTnWXIUaAn34EALw_wcB

The switch below the distributor should have 3 prongs on it and it should be the switch for supplying power to the fuel pump, and another which grounds the Tan/Blue wire to turn on the alarm

Look under the helm and find the Tan/Blue wire. Once that is found trace it to the alarm or where it was cut off. Then connect the new alarm to it an the Purple wire and you should be good

Being a 1992 you may have the warning horn that has a 7 - 14 second delay once the key is turned on.

Key on, engine not running. Horn will not sound for 7–14 seconds. Okay to start engine without audio alarm.
Normal test beep (built‑in delay in audio warning) No action Required No action required
MERCRUISER HORN WARNING SYSTEMS

If this is the case then it may resemble item numbers 7,8,9 all put together, https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-...embly/1014/470

Item # 12 is the non timed warning horn.

Their are kits Sierra makes with both switches and a buzzer --

I find this to be cheap insurance and great piece of mind. Especially if a relative wants to drive the boat or their is something distracting me ( Hopefully in a Bikini )

I ended up upgrading my buzzer to a piezo style that pulses and I also added an idiot light across it which will pulse also.

I try to listen for mine each time I start is to verify its working properly as low oil pressure will trigger it.

1 warning -- Its not brother in law proof :D

Mine is just behind the throttle/shifter in a side compartment, not behind the dash. Take a peak back there.

Thanks guys. I'll look near the remote.
LOL on the brother-in-law comment. I am partners on the boat with my brother-in-law but I'm this case it was me that did not pay attention to the gauge. I could not agree more, cheap insurance and piece of mind to monitor the situation when I am not.
