Boarding Steps

Hi Everyone!

Just bought a Sea Ray 240 SunDeck. The swim platform is 52" off the ground. The Admiral is not the most adept at getting up the swim ladder, and so I'm looking to purchase steps for boarding while the boat is parked at our house. All I can find are ones that are $400+.

Anyone have any good ideas or discoveries that they use? Forget about making it myself...Due to my lack of wood-working skills, I'd rather fork over the mullah (as long as it's NOT $400+).

Thank you,
Eric "Morgueman"

Re: Boarding Steps

Maybe a right sized step ladder?

I personally like to keep the Admiral, kids, others out of the ship when on the trailer, kind of a boat-man cave while in the driveway.

Good thought, but would still like something easier to climb and not result in being on the knees or rear end when arriving at the swim platform.

Re: Boarding Steps

you say that because you don't understand that a proper sized step ladder will be 4-6 feet taller than the swim platform

you climb up and step onto the boat...... I keep one behind my 28'er at all times when at home

Yup, step ladder here to. By the way, your not suppose to use your step ladder that is mounted on your swim platform unless it is in the water, they are not made to take the stress and will break eventually leaving you broken or atleast feeling stupid.

Re: Boarding Steps

How about something like this to get to the ladder on the swim platform. I am in the same boat. My ladder is high off the ground. The wife and I are on our 30s so we can still stretch but some day we will need a plan B

Thanks, but the height of this is 28", and the height of the platform is 52"; therefore, the last step would be 24" high -- pretty hefty.

Re: Boarding Steps

Thanks...I know this may sound silly to some, but the ladders carry a bit more risk of slippage and require some turn in the process. I'm looking for steps that you just walk right up onto platform.

I am not sure if they are tall enough but you might want to check out the steps made for our canine(dog) friends. They are usually carpeted for inside use but there may be some plastic versions. The stairs are used for dogs so they can easily get on beds etc. It might be a cheaper alternative.

Wide variety here:

McMaster-Carr

But how often do you really see the Admiral boarding the vessel when in your driveway? Steps like those may be overkill for such a rare event.

Re: Boarding Steps

If you really require steps then your best bet is probably to hire a local contractor to build you a small deck (dock?) and a stairway with a handrail

anything portable will likely be wobbly and dangerous (EDIT) or heavy and expensive OR light and VERY expensive
