Hello and thanks in advance for any help. I have a 98 Baja with the two barrel carb 5.7 and am trying to add this to my boat. So far so good but I am getting to the point where I need to figure out the wiring with respect to the motor. If I could I would post the wring diagram according to Clymer so bear with me please.

So for the house battery can I disconnect the hot lead at the point where the single battery attaches to the starter? There is a solid red wire that goes from the starter to the 50A breaker which in turns feeds the household circuit. My thought is that if I disconnect at starter I can attach the 'house' battery to it and the house circuit will feed up front and have the battery isolation as outlined in the generic diagrams provided by Blue Sea. The 'engine' battery will stay connected and as I would take the back cable (solid red) from the starter which feeds the + side of the 50A circuit would be redirected to the 'house' battery. Will this mess up the ignition circuits? Will this mess up the charging circuit?

Yes it will mess up the ignition circuits. For some boats, it really isn't worth separating everything out.

You want the ignition and anything powering gauges and tilt on the start battery. You may have to run a new wire up to your dash fuse panel to really separate them properly. You may have to have a separate fuse panel at the dash for engine related circuits. It can be done but it's going to take some effort.

The wire form the alternator is typically a separate wire down to the starter.

What are you working on?
