Re: blown engine

I've seen V6 powerheads throw rods, but never twice in a row.Are you throwing rods?Or something else?

I wouldn't get gun shy, after all M is still picking up the tab.

And believe me,they are working on the cause.

DHP

Re: blown engine

You need to find out why it is blowing. How is it blowing up?? Burnt piston, seizing or what. I had a 200 go several years ago but it threw a rod through the block.

Re: blown engine

If your extended coverage happens to expire within a year, your powerhead is still covered. It has a 1 year guarantee by itself.

thanks for the response you hit the nail on the head. i thought they solved the problem on the first power head failure(short in ignition circut) caused the timing to advance. i think they need to equipt a low water pick up to sufficiently cool the upper cyclinders. i am bring them the boat tommorrow we will see what they come up with.

mistylady

Re: blown engine

hello
the pistons will tell the story to a tech who will observe. all scuffs, unless the piston is mangled into tiny pieces, will tell you what happened. lean out, overheat a stuck ring will all leave tell tale marks on the piston. over advancing timing will usually erode the piston crown and expose the top ring or eat a hole through the piston center. I cant think of any ign short that would cause a merc to over advance so far to damage a piston without running nasty before it burns.most times its a midrange lean condition. there is no good injector test in the merc book. if in doubt send them out for testing at an indepedant EFI injector place.
but if they dont find it I will bet it will blow again.
good luck and keep posting
