FRIEND LENT BOAT OUT AND DRIVERS FORGOT TO PUT OIL<br />IN TANK ...BANG IT IS A 80 HP MERC 1975? 4 IN LINE<br />WITH DIST WANTS TO INCRESS HP AS HE HAS TO REPLACE PISTONS ECT ANY WAY TO MAKE THIS MOTOR<br />IN TO 100 HP ECT WITH OUT HUGE CHANGES ANY INFO :D

Hi Flips,<br /> I don't think you're going to see anything like 100 horses out of that motor. Boring out to use oversize pistons isn't likely to give you much of a power increase. Maybe 1 or 2 horses, but you probably won't notice it unless you're running on a really light performance hull, and even then, it won't be much. If your buddy wants 100 horses, trade the 80 in on a bigger motor...<br />- Scott

For what it is going to cost to rebuild that one you most likely find a used inline6 of the same vintage. If you want the one you got to put out more you could probably expect double the rebuild cost. Since the powerhead was run out of oil it would likely be an expensive rebuild (all new pistons, rods, bores, etc.)

thanks for your input chine walker and what 200<br />i thought that might be the case reason i asked<br />wasthat motor is being rebuilt by his buddy<br />anyway this is the one that forgot the oil who is<br />a transmission specialist funny hey i will pass on the info thanks again cheers.
