Blowing Ignition fuse

I have a 78 70 hp evinrude model 70873c, keeps blowing the small 20 amp fuse which powers the ign switch. I have the manual but I can't trouble shoot past the fuse which blows as soon as I replace it and turn the ign to on. Any ideas of what the problem is or how I can check further? Possible the ign switch or neutral switch? It was running fine and when I went to start it no power, no click, nothing. Thanks!!

Re: Blowing Ignition fuse

The gauges are wired to the ignition so if the steering cable is rubbing the back or there's a bad gauge I would look there first. You can find the first in the chain and remove the power wire to do a quick test. Not sure on the 78 but there might be a dash plug you can pull

Disconnect the accy wire off of the ignition switch once and see what happens.

The only gauge I have is a tach. It does seem like something is shorted somewhere. Which wire is the accy wire? would it be the A terminal? I did find a trouble shooting page for the ign switch, think I will try that.

You guys were spot on.. took the control box apart and the accy wire was pinched in the case halves. Don't know why it took this long to wear through the insulation but it was deffinetly shorted. Fixed wire, put back together, all good now.. Thanks guys!!!
