I have an electrical issue. I have a 2006 195lr searay. I blew an ign fuse last weekend. I put a new one in immediately and when turned ign switch on it blew right away. let sit til next day, replaced fuse again, started and ran fine until it warmed up then blew again. I removed the gauge panel and found the purple wire that runs from the gauges to the engine compartment was reading ground. disconnect from gauge and it won't blow fuse but of course engine won't start either. Have no idea where to start. Could the ignition box be getting hot causing this or a sensor such as temp, oil. I have knowledge on 12v electrical systems but wanted to check to see if there were any shortcuts or obvious issues to start with. Also when engine is cold the same purple wire does not show ground. Don't know if it is ignition or warning sensors. Appreciate any help or ideas.

Where is this "Ignition fuse" fuse located, and what size is it. What engine do you have? A serial number would be really nice.

Don, the fuse is located under helm in main fuse block and it is a 15 amp. The engine is a 4.3 mercruiser and ser # is ow655808 family is 6m9xm04.32vc

What do you mean when you say the purple wire shows ground? How and where are you checking this.

You don't by any chance have the ignition switch powering any other accessories other than the ignition do you?

there is no aftermarket on the switch. The ignition switch powers all gauges as well with a purple wire running to each gauge. I am checking these wire on the rear of the dash (gauge) panel. The purple wire comes off one of the gauges with12 volts and goes through helm to the warning horn and then to the engine compartment, not exactly sure haven't opened up wire loom to trace yet. When the engine is cold i get a 12 volt reading, when engine is running for about 10 minutes in slip, the fuse blows and during the tracing part to try to find the culprit wire I found this wire, when I disconnected from power source at gauge, was reading continuity to ground which tells me this wire is the problem. When I leave disconnected the fuse does not blow, with it connected with engine warm it blows as soon as the key is turned on. This electrical system is all factory and has not been altered or anything added to it what so ever. I even have original factory radio. I hope this helps. Did you see the correction on manuf it is a stingray not sea ray sorry. This vessel has never been abused and is under a covered hoist in a dock and is in garage during winter. Have not had any issues with critters or bees nest just cant figure this out without tearing it to pieces or paying an butt load of money and a hour haul to have it tied up by a mechanic for ages. I believe this wire is tied to warning system not absolutely positive not sure where to go from here

Here is something you might try, when you warm the engine up and the fuse blows. Go back disconnect the TKS module and put a new fuse in and see if it still blows the fuse. The module is item A in the picture below.

I am having the same issue with 2006 Stingray 195. Engine warms to almost 160 deg and the fuse blows.
