Blowing Fuses?

It has taken me almost a year and a half to get my Proline boat ship-shape. It has been an ongoing process of about 12 sea trials and I am still solving small problems.
I have the std 7 lug trailer light hook up, but I keep blowing fuses when I launch boat into salt water bayou. The lights are rated for underwater usage. My trailer has SS disk brakes and is equipped with the back up solenoid to release brake fluid pressure when 12 volts is applied to solenoid. I trailer with a manual shift Chevy 4x4. Chevy manual shift back up light switches are notorious for failing. So, I added a toggle switch to also supply current to solenoid, incase Chevy switch fails.
I keep blowing fuses when trailer get into water. To aid in NOT blowing fuses, I have fabricated a rod to insert into surge coupler at launch time. This prohibits reward motion, forcing disk brakes to engage, and I disconnect trailer plug. I can back up, and I do not blow fuses.
After I retrieve boat and prepare to head for home, I disconnect fabricated device and reconnect trailer plug. Fuses don't blow, but this process is time consuming.
I have not been able to see any break in wiring. The fuses seem to blow, even if I do not use toggle switch to assist. Anyone had similar problem??????? Solution to blown fuses??????

Re: Blowing Fuses?

I would imagine you must have an exposed wire somewhere that is grounding out once submerged. It is probably in the section of trailer that gets submerged as the salt-water is allowing conductivity, or the wire is moved around by the incoming water and touching bare metal. Either way, I doubt it has anything to do with your reverse solenoid.

+1
Check the harness for wires that are rubbed through and touching the frame.
I found its usually right were a hole was drilled and the wires go through the frame (those guys never put rubber grommets on)
