I have an Evinrude Scout trolling motor that has started blowing 20 amp fuses. I fish very heavy grass areas so I remove and clean trash and sometime fishing line from behind the two-blade prop. I bought the boat/motor/trailer used 4 to 5 months ago. A few weeks after purchasing the boat I replaced the deep cycle battery with a Wal-Mart deep cycle battery. My wife and I were going fishing two to three times a week and sometime more until the time change. We weren’t having any problems with the trolling motor except keeping a good charge. I assume this was due to heavy use. I was charging the deep cycle battery with an old charger without an auto-cutoff or low amp setting. I purchased and I’m now using a 1.5 amp trickle charger with auto-cutoff. After fishing, I connect the trickle charger and leave it on until we go fishing again. The fuses stared blowing after I began using the trickle charger but I don’t know how a different charger would have any effect on blowing fuses. I didn’t have replacement fuses to first two times the fuses blew so I could not change the fuses while fishing. So far, after changing the fuse the trolling motor runs fine for about 1 to 3 hours the next time I use it.

Does anyone have any suggestion? I’m not ready to buy a new or used trolling motor.

I can’t find a serial or model # anywhere. I have look inside the foot control and found a white sticker but nothing is legible on the sticker. The Randell bass boat, 90 hp Mercury and trailer are 1987/88 years models so I’m assuming the trolling motor is also. I would like to find and buy a new prop but so far have not been able to find one. I was hoping to find a ‘weed less’ prop.
