A very good friend of mine had a pretty bad accident last sunday. She had to be transported back to the marina in her boat and was then helocoptered to Saint Anthony medical center in Rockford.

Several screws, a rod, and two pins later and she gets to keep her arm.
She was released last thursday. She is home resting.

Today she calls me and asks me to go check on her boat. Of course I will. When I get to the marina and find her boat, it is a total mess.
It is an '05 Bayliner. Not sure of the model, but it is sharp!
In all the excitement, they trailored the boat and parked it. And that is where it sat. Nobody's fault, Stuff happens.
So I hook up to it and start to pull off with it to bring it home and it is towing like the anchor is down. Come to find out the hull plug is still in. We have been getting alot of rain here. Prolly drained 5 gallons of water out.
I get it to my place and go to work. Scrubbed down the hull, the interior, and the deck carpet.
Two things I can't seem to take care of. When the water drained out, it was pink from all the blood and it stank. Made me puke. I can't get the stink outta the bilge. I also can't get the blood staining out of the seats. The seats are white. I have tried bleach, 409, Chlorox Clean up, and Fantastik. I don't want to damage the vinyl. Her boat is her Baby and I have never seen it in this condition. I jsut wanna make it right.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Mods, if this belongs someplace else, I'm sorry.

Re: Blood on boat seats.

Try a magic eraser ......

I would also try a cleanser like comet or bar keeper's friend

I will place this in the technical section ;) for non-boating however, I think you will get your best answer's there

I found that oxiclean works well on many white items. I bled like a pig 2 weeks ago when I scuffed my heel in my boat and it got all over a blue cushion and I cant get it out. Im afraid those white seats will end up having to be recovered.

You are a true friend to go clean up that mess, wish your friend well for us!

Try hydrogen peroxide for the blood stains, I have found that works well.

As for the smell, it may come back when the boat interior gets wet again. I have just used a product called Microban, that seems to work really well as a fungicide, mildewcide, and is used in all manner of ways. It is also used to clean hospital rooms, crime scenes, carcass removal, whatever one might consider really nasty and gross, which I think might be the case here.

My vote is for hydrogen peroxide. Just saturate the area, and let it bubble up. Then immediately rinse it with water. Doctors and Nurses use this method to remove stubborn blood stains from clothes.

+Microban for cleanup.

Ditto on the peroxide. That is what my wife uses on her uniform when she works in the ER.

I'm going to try the peroxide after I am done with my coffee. I have a bottle here and it's just easy.
The microban would be for the bilge?? I can't imagine what that is going to smell like when it gets warm. I am hoping I can get it locally.

You sound like a great friend.

My question is,... What in the world happened to her to cause all that damage and blood? Glad she will be OK.

She was clipped by a train. Her right arm was severly damged and required 3 hours of surgery to repair it. All the bones were broke and were exposed in one place or another. Her blood loss was extensive. She is looking at about a year or more of physical therapy.

The peroxide worked like a charm. It bubbled the blood stains right out, Who'da thunk it??

Thanks guys!!!
Working on finding a local supplier of Microban.

Tracks along side waterways are not uncommon.......she may have been beached/docked.......sound very plausible to me......:D

Jeez,
Thats because you do not know the whole story, nor do I.

Ever try to get across a body of water in a hurry to get to the nearest pickup point for help? Would you drive all the way around it in your car or take a boat straight across??? Jeez.

They were jumping off of a trestle into the river. Not the wisest thing to do, I agree. The treatle is about 25 or 30 feet off the water. The wind is such that you can't hear very much and she told me she never saw or heard it coming. Union Pacific is investigating why the engineer didn't see them/her and sound his horn.

Here is a pic of the next days paper.
