Hi All,

I got some news about my 1979 Merc 7.5 that there is an exhaust plate that has carboned up.The guy said that could be part of my running issue why the motor loads up and stalls. This could be the reason why at idle/troll it has cooling issues because the exhaust is flowing thru prop cavitating the cooling pickup .

How do I get to that plate,to clean it out??? I dont want to dump to much $$$ more into this motor.

Not sure about a 7.5 but on a 90 you have to pull the power head and then there is the exhaust transition plate.

first i would check compression. if it is workable then i would change your impeller to take that out of the overheating part. then do a nice decarb with a good bottle of seafoam.
