1996 Chevy Blazer
Factory am/fm cassette 6 spkr system.

Rear door spkrs didn't work when I got the vehicle.
Drivers door spkr died a year ago, then would occasionally work, until last fall.

Ok, decided to throw in a Sony cd receiver, bought it from Crutchfield and received all the necessary plug in wiring harnesses.

Installation went without a hitch, even though GM made it more difficult than it needed to be.

I now started on my journey to locate the speaker problems/gremlins.
I pulled the two rear door panels.
Examined the speakers and wiring, all are intact, no water damage, rubber boots from door to body post are intact. The power windows and locks all work, and all share the same boot, so things should be good there.

Where else do I look?
Is there somewhere under the dash where the spkr wires from the stereo harness, plug into separate harnesses for each door/speaker?
Or is it one continuous wire from harness to speaker?
If not, where do I look?

Any and all advice welcome.

can you test continuity from dash to speaker? eliminate the wiring from the problem, and then you'll know if it's the speakers or not.

Not sure if this will help Roscoe, but that is the wiring diagram for a 96' Blazer. Do you have a different speaker that you know is working that you could connect to the vehicles harness so that you can be assured the speakers themselves are not the problem? I would do that and then double check the ground is clean. Based on the diagram, it doesnt look like there are any harnesses after the main harness behind the head unit......I am sure there are inline connecters though.

If both rears stopped workin at the same time, I wonder if there is something wrong with that actual vehicles harness.......since the new radio plugs into is as well with its own harness. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Blazer stereo wiring help

Ran out of time and tired of swattin mosquitos last night, maybe tomorrow.

Yes, I can/will test continuity.
Also, I have 2 sets of spkrs I could test with, although I know the rear door spkrs are good, as I sent a signal through them from my boombox.

Since I'm gonna have to remove the dash panels and drop the steering column again to check continuity, I figure I will just run new wires and be done with it. It would be nice to use the factory wires and keep everything looking neat and tidy, but its a 12 year old truck and I don't have time to waste right now.

I guess there has to be a plug/splitter somewhere somewhere in the dash, as all the wire colors match your diagram, Pony. But the wires connecting to each speaker are red and black.

Thanks for the tips guys.

mattttt, good to hear from you, its been a while.

Roscoe, if it is like my old Cavalier, the there is a plug/connecter only a few feet from the speaker itself. In mine they were yellow and brown when they got to the speaker.

Yes, there is a plug connector about a foot from each speaker.
The wires on both sides of the plug are red and black.
So, somewhere, there is a connector where the red/black wires, connect to the color coded speaker wires.
