Re: black/white Johnson

I have a 1988 Johnson 110 and its white, I don't recall ever seeing a black 110 Johnson. I suppose it's possible that the current owner painted it. There were also some Tracker motors that had different paint and graphics than the regular motors but I don't know if Tracker ever offered a Johnson 110 version.
In case you didn't know, Tracker boats had motors from various manufacturers produced with their colors and graphics to match the boats that they were installed onto.
Either way, I'm sure it's the same motor under the paint.

Yes it's a great motor!!! A real good motor! That was actually the older 125 hp motor that was re-rated at the prop. The V-4's like that are bulletproof and very reliable.

I've had no problems with mine, it's always been a reliable motor. The only negative is the fuel economy but that can be said for all motors in it's class back in that era. I've read that the OMC's offering of the 110 was a result of the different HP ratings (prop vs powerhead) that took place in the mid 80's but exactly what it used to be before the re-rating has always been a bit of a grey area. According to the parts catalogs, a 125 was never offered? I've tried to find the answer to that question but never found a definitive answer.

There was the dark grey, "winged" logo phase in the late 90's like in the pic below. Maybe that's what he means by "black". Seems like the color didn't last that long though. I love the fact that Etecs still come in a factory white, rather than the basic Darth Vader black on most other brands. Although, I think Mercury is actually starting to make white, marine motors, but I could be wrong.
