Black rubber bow rollers leave marks...

I see the keel and bow rollers are available in different types of non-marking plastics. The bow stop and first keel roller are black rubber and leave marks all over the bow and front half of the keel. I want to replace them with something non-marking.

Anyone use any of these?

Seachoice Spool Roller:

Yes, I changed mine after the second scuffing. Big difference. Eventually I will change them all.

I actually have the second bow roller, I had the old kind that didn't roll and I got tired of rubbing off the scuffs. My roller works great for my boat, I only have a 18.5 runabout but it works great! Peace!

Not sure if they are the same but I use the urethane types. Color looks the same and are kind of transluscent in appearance. Not a mark left from them.

I have the bow roller. It's hard plastic and smooth, rated to 10,000#, according to the manufacturer.. Mine does not spin or roll when the bow comes in contact. The bow slides and it works fine.

I would love to replace all my rollers (all 32 of them) w/urethane, but at better than $5/6 ea, that is a lot of money.
Any ideas on where to get them cheaper in bulk?

Call Venture trailers but I think they do more business on the east coast. I took a lot of time deciding between bunk trailer and a roller. My friend suggested bunk, but I wanted a roller. Good thing I got the bunk.

Count me in on this as well!

I did some searching, and found that you can buy they by the lot, but they still come-in around $5.25 each (check e-bay).

Both Northern Tool and Boater's World carry the same 4-pack that's sold here at iboats , and they're all between $35 and $40.

The ebay route might be the best deal, but it'll run at least $150. I almost wish there was a coating we could put on the black ones to prevent them from scuffing-off!

I don't know if this will work, but I was toying with the idea of painting the black rollers white with the vinyl spray paint. It will stick to the rubber, and if the roller actually rolls, it might hold up.

Re: Black rubber bow rollers leave marks...

I ordered a keel roller and the Y bow stop in non-marking to replace the existing keel roller and bow stop "roller". The rear most spool rollers are not a problem because they are under water and the boat floats on/off them. Its the keel rollers in the front and the bow stop that leave black smudge marks. I included a bracket and additional roller so I can add another support to the keel up front to help support the extra weight of that new gas tank I added to the bow. I think that should do it.

How much is it worth not to scuff the boat? And how much is the trailer worth?

I tabulate $264 for 32 rollers. These are polyvinal, the good ones are polyurathane, I think and are solid w/o the platic inserts.
My trailer is an 89 model and still have the orginal rollers and they really don't mark it up much, they are just getting old and cracked.
I found poly rollers on Champion Trailer's site at $10.85 each or (OUCH), $8.99 at Pro Bass shop.
Thanks for the information.

Didnt care until I painted my alum boat.. now Im switching over also. Too much work and money into that paint job just to have black marks on it.

Re: Black rubber bow rollers leave marks...

Hi Mark, now you're telling me :D Got my brandnew trailer home now and all black rollers. Checked out for replacements (blue) and it would set me back a bundle  . And the guy more or less told me not to mope because I got the trailer at a discount (true, 500 euros). Limping around the house now with the 2-day tuning of the trailer (support rollers, weight on the ball, fiddeling here, adjusting there and building in two new instruments (voltmeter and rpm for which I'm still waiting on the cable as well as the tilt-assist-cable which is in working order now with ducttape, piece of tubing and tie-rips) etc.) Nobody has any pity overhere...can you imagine the cruelty of these women-folk (wife, dog, 3 cats all female). Might take you up on your offer to get me my cables....seems Evinrude (Bomb) are reluctant to send off any sales less than $ 1200 to dealers here.
Reading back I fear I'm rambling a bit...might be the wine I've taken to ease the pains in my aging body. Bu the way, did you upgrade on the springs?
Hope all is well at home,
Frank

Hee, hee, hee... Frank, are you having a bad day? Let me know if you want me to check out the cable for you.

Yes, I did get new springs, direct replacements in physical size, but 800lbs higher capacity. They just have another leaf. Might get them in this week.

If you're still aching, try warming up some brandy and slug it down then find a comfortable place because you won't be getting up soon....

Send my regards to your women!

Mark.
