I have twins, sotra. The serial numbers say they're '84, but one power head is a newer style, not sure of the year. The newer one has a different poppet with an extra hose. The water pressure at idle is about 7 and the pee hole doesn't spew 'till it warms up. The older power head makes about 15 psi at idle and the tell-tale is strong cold and I can see where it increases once it warms up which takes FOREVER compared to the other motor. The pumps are new, thermostats are tested clean and swapped between the motors, poppets are clean and the water jackets are clean in the thermostat and poppet areas. So is this high pressure, slow warm-up, and immediate peeing normal for the old style motor or do I have a mystery problem somewhere? The high pressure motor is also pumping water into the drive oil even on the hose, but I'm hesitant to blame a bad seal if the water pressure is just too high.

You bought somebody's problems, eh.

The top seal on the LU is bad. The water pump doesn't put any pressure on it, and even if it did, it should hold it.

It looks like you have a pair if frankenmercs. Nothing wrong with that, but I would bet the base plate or base plate gasket is wrong on the one with high pressure.

hope it helps

I dont think you have a problem its just 2 different types of cooling systems, the newer(hose to top of block) will take a little longer, have less pressure at idle and will run lower psi at 5000rpm than the older style. Spec's for newer are 1-3 psi @idle and min of 12 psi @ 5000 pm where the old style is 3-7 psi @ idle and 17-22 psi @ 5000rpm.

Pretty much agree with John here. You need to revisit tha pump on tha older motor. Especially tha O-ring on tha base and all gaskets. High pressure at idle says there is a restriction "somewhere" in tha coolin' system.
