I've never owned a Merc before and I may purchase a boat with a Black Max 150 built in approx. 1984. Was this a good year for Black Max's? Are they reliable, good for skiing?

Jeff

Re: Black Max 150

Hi The mercs are a fine motor but just to be safe what i would do is pull the heads and check the cyl. walls for any sign of scoring and do a compression check. And also make sure it is pumping water and you may even want to replace the impellar at least then you know whats in there, as i wish i had done when i bought my 200hp and now i am rebuilding it a fair cost i might add.If you can't do the job get a mech to do it and beleive me it will be money well spent
