I am looking at purchasing this control for my 1987 70hp Merc. In speaking with the gentlemen selling the unit, he states the support blocks are not with the unit. he also mentions that they are purchased seperately depending on type of cables used. Is this true? I cannot find a supplier of support blocks but can find the correct cables.

thanks for your help.

Not familiar with "support blocks". Where and why?

Not sure if thats the correct term. They support the cables just before they are connected to the proper hole alignment.

Re: Binnacle Control.Support Blocks?

Older Mercs (have no idea what is used today...hear there is some kind of MercII cable system out now) cables had a threaded brass cylinder that you could move (screw threads) up and down the cable to set the proper relationship between the remote control position and the engine shift/throttle positions. As I recall they came with the cables.

Both the remote and the engine had slots cast into their alum housings that were made to accept these "blocks" if that is what they are called. Anything outside of that were after market I would assume, like if you had a long exposed run of cables and wanted to secure them.
