Bindings that will fit?

Got a great deal on an O'brien synchro ski with targa XXL bindings, which are a bit big on me. I need a new pari of high wrap bindings (I really like the lace up bindings). Can I only use O'brien bindings, or will other brands fit? I'm a recreational skier, and basically any high wrap would probably be adequate for my needs.

As long as the bindings will bolt to the ski blank, you can use whatever you want.

Almost all of the newer bindings out there are attached to an aluminum plate. Typically the plate has a bunch of holes drilled all around the edges you can usually get them to line up with the holes in the ski. If not either drill holes where needed in the mounting plate or epoxy in the old holes in the ski and using a stop collar on the drill bit, layout and drill new holes in the ski. I would use a dab of sealant on the screws in the new holes just to keep it from getting water intrusion into the core. What size range do the targas fit ? I might be interested, could help offset the purchase of the new bindings.

thanks--that's the info that i'm looking for. so basically, any binding will fit. i'd certainly rather drill holes in the plate than the ski. the bindings are XL/XXL, size 11-13. Just a touch too loose for my 10.5 feet. PM me if yer interested. brand new except to try em on in the shower.

Re: Bindings that will fit?

Skis have manufacturer-specific hole patterns for the binding plates. Recently (last 3-5 years) HO / OBrien / Connelly / KD have gone to a common FRONT plate pattern. Rear hole patterns vary slightly, so you might want to ask at a ski shop. Obviously Obrien bindings will be a direct fit for your Synchro.

New Obrien Bio boots are $99 frt / $89 rear.
There are those and a few other options on sale here:

I use and really like the Wiley rubber boots. They can be ordered to fit various plate hole patterns. $125 front / $105 Rear.

You might find something used, or sell you XXLs (if UBN doesn't want them) here.

Have a great summer and enjoy the new ski.
